Whooping cough cases increase

The practice manager is available to help you with any administrative or non-medical aspects of the practice. She is also available to discuss any comments or suggestions that you may have. You can either telephone on 0118 9595200 or, if you enquire at reception, she will be happy to see you if she is free.

Reception

We employ six part time receptionists to help us run the practice. Please remember that they are anxious to help you but at times their job can be a difficult one, please be patient.

Community Midwives

Antenatal care is the routine service provided for pregnant women. The practice follows the NICE guidelines for Antenatal care and a schedule of this will be given to you by the midwife at booking. This service is usually provided as shared care between your doctor and midwife and hospital consultant if appropriate. The 1st appointment is usually around 8-10 weeks with the midwife, please book this as soon as the pregnancy is confirmed, the first appointment is a long one and usually takes an hour to complete. Please collect an Antenatal pack from the surgery before your first appointment, this pack contains information about tests for you and your baby and a data sheet with your midwives telephone number. The midwife holds clinics at the surgery on a Tuesday from 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 4.30pm.

After your baby is born and you return home from hospital a midwife will contact you either by phone or visiting your home address, she will arrange a schedule of visits and post natal appointments that are tailored to your need, some of these may be at the hospital or local Childrens Centre. When the midwife discharges you from her care the Health Visitor will be available to offer you help and advice. You should remember as soon as possible to register your new baby with the doctor at the surgery and also to book your 6 week postnatal appointment with your doctor. Your 6 week postnatal check includes having your weight and blood pressure checked and offering of a cervical smear and contraceptive advice.

Community Nurses

The team consists of a nursing sister who is supported by other qualified nursing staff. They are attached to the practice and provide a nursing service in the home to all age groups. They have knowledge of local and national services available to patients and their families, from statutory and voluntary organisations. If you wish to contact them, you may do so via the surgery.

Health Visitors

All Health Visitors are qualified nurses with special training and experience in child health, health promotion and education. We have a health visitor attached to the practice who provides mother and baby clinics. The health visitor is also available to offer practical support and give general advice on all health and social problems. You may contact her via the surgery or on 0118 9374457 (please note that this number is not manned all day).
